The description of this product states, “The original multi-purpose skin moisturizer made from only pure plant oils and waxes to moisturize and soothe dry skin, help prevent chafing and windburn, gently remove eye make-up, soothe diaper are irritation, create moisture barrier to prevent irritation.”
I have found this product to be very helpful as a substitute for petroleum jelly.
I especially like it for “slugging” on my hands. I first put a layer of moisturizing balm on my hands, then add this balm on top.

Birkenstock Intensive Moisturizing Rich Cream – $65
Overall Rating:
(3 / 5)
Performance Rating:
(2 / 5)
Ingredients Rating:
(3 / 5)
This product was removed from the Birkenstock website in early 2022.
The Birkenstock skincare products contain cork oil, which is said to have the ability to tighten the skin and thus reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
I really like the Birkenstock Anti-Stress Serum (which is a skin oil containing only natural ingredients) and the eye cream, and so I decided to try this face cream as well.
Unfortunately the face cream seems to make my skin feel a little itchy and slightly irritated, which I suspect is due to some of the preservative ingredients (benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, benzyl benzoate and benzyl salicylate).
The cream also includes a pretty strong baby powder type scent that is said to be derived from natural ingredients but that I still would rather they had not used.
Although I have used up a good bit of the product despite the mild skin irritation issues, I do not see myself buying it again.

Birkenstock Moisturizing Eye Contour Balm – $55
♣ Living Clean Superstar
Overall Rating:
(5 / 5)
Performance Rating:
(5 / 5)
Ingredients Rating:
(4 / 5)
As of June 2022, this product was no longer listed on the Birkenstock website.
Like other Birkenstock skincare products, this eye cream contains cork extract – an unusual ingredient that has been shown in some published studies to have the ability to help to soften the appearance of wrinkles.
A number of hydrators, including hyaluronic acid (from snow mushroom) and jojoba oil also are included.
Although I had some issues with one of the Birkenstock face creams being mildly irritating to my skin, the eye cream seems to have been fine for me.
It does include a number of potentially problem ingredients, including several different preservatives.
The fragrance is said to be derived from all natural ingredients and is a mild baby-powder type scent that has not bothered me. Other natural citrus-type scents (limonene and linalool) also are included.
Personally, I have been very enthusiastic about the Birkenstock Anti-Stress Serum, which is a face oil that includes cork extract and a variety of other natural ingredients without any potentially problematic laboratory-created chemicals.
I am thinking that I will continue to use that one consistently in the future, including carefully in the area near my eyes.
I’ve gone through almost a whole bottle of the eye cream, and though I’m a little less enthusiastic about it than I am the Anti-Stress Serum, I may buy it again as well since it does seem to have been helpful with regard to wrinkling issues.

This is an affordably priced and super-clean eye cream that is made by hand by Andrea Fabry, who is a toxic mold survivor who has writes about natural living issues in books and on a website called It Takes Time.
During the first several weeks of my experiments with using skincare products on a regular basis, I tried using this eye cream on one side of my face and the Aveda Tulasara products (eye cream and sleeping mask) on the other side.
Both sides looked obviously better as a result, especially in terms of the bags under my eyes going away.
This was a real accomplishment for this eye cream considering how inexpensive and clean it is.
I also do feel that this makes for a nice overall face cream that provides relatively lightweight moisturizing as well as anti-puffiness benefits to the face.
Just So ceased operations in early 2022.
I really wish that Andrea would continue to make and sell this product.

Rich in omega 6 and omega 9, it provides nutrition and elasticity to the skin, and prevents dehydration by strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier. Its texture penetrates quickly and leaves the skin soft and supple, and is fragranced by an almond scent characteristic of plum oil. Replenishes the epidermis for more supple, nourished and hydrated skin. Cold-pressed oil from organically grown plum kernels. Certified organic, 100% naturally-derived.”
I was really happy to find this oil, which is similar to the Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil but is available at about 1/3 the price.
I think that this product feels very good on my skin and that it does seem to help my skin barrier.
While I have concluded that I slightly prefer the Le Prunier product in terms of the smell, the scent of this product (similar to that of almond oil) is very nice too.
I have really been enjoying using this product on my skin and expect that I will be purchasing more of it in the near future when this bottle runs out.

Calming Organic Lemon Balm. Rejuvenating, conditioning Organic Helichrysum + Calendula. Organic fruit flavors of Plum, Apricot + Fig.”
I really like this product, which feels very clean to me and seems to have a very good effect on my lips.
The main ingredients are organic jojoba oil, organic beeswax, organic coconut oil and organic castor seed oil.
The product has what I think is a lovely mild fruity taste and smell, which seems to be a result of the use of natural fig flavor and natural plum apricot flavor.
A few organic herbal extracts (helichrysum, lemon balm, calendula) that supposedly have beneficial effects on the lips also are included.
While I often feel that my lips start to get in poor shape because I fail to moisturize them frequently enough, this chunky lip balm is such a pleasure to use that I am more likely to remember to apply it regularly.

A Note From Lisa
Products that I have tried or researched and that I have not found to be acceptable from a toxicity standpoint have been omitted entirely from the discussions on this website.
However, since a goal of this project is to introduce people to a range of options in terms of price and functionality, some products discussed on this site include ingredients that may not be appropriate for everyone.
It’s my hope that all individuals making their way to this site will find at least a few options from each product category that meet all of their own needs and wants from a variety of perspectives.
